TOMB OF THE PRATDESABA

This exquisite modernist tomb is located in the area designated for mausoleums and was created by the architect Jeroni de Paula Granell i Manresa. It is particularly noted for its rich decoration featuring vegetal elements and its flattened structure in the shape of a Greek cross, adorned with bronze lettering.

The cross is made of sandstone and features a subtle elevation at its centre. The arms are decorated with poppy flowers—one of the symbols of death—and acanthus leaves. In the four intermediate spaces, flattened pansies are arranged to resemble fish scales.

ABELLÓ MAUSOLEUM

The Abelló family, originally from the Conca de Barberà region and later settled in the city of Reus, were the first to acquire land in the General Cemetery to establish their mausoleum. They commissioned the project from the Barcelona architect Emili Sardà Cortés and the sculptural ensemble from the Reus artist Joan Roig i Soler. The monument stands on a square parterre enclosed by a decorative wrought-iron fence, with the central structure being an urn supported by a pedestal and topped with an obelisk.

CASAS BLEY MAUSOLEUM

This mausoleum was commissioned in 1876 by Victorino Bley, a wealthy bourgeois from Reus who had settled in Barcelona, expressing his wish to be buried in his hometown. The architect responsible for the mausoleum was Josep Oriol Mestres, who designed it as a simplified replica of a small Gothic temple constructed from white marble. Symbolically, this mausoleum was intended to safeguard the souls of the righteous after they are judged by God.

MARGENAT CHAPEL

Among the monumental structures in the General Cemetery of Reus, two notable modernist tombs stand out. The first is the Margenat Chapel, designed by architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, a student of Antoni Gaudí and also the creator of the well-known Casa Navàs, located in Plaça Mercadal, Reus.

MONUMENT TO SARDÀ I CAILÀ

At the central crossroads between the first and second sections of the General Cemetery of Reus stands the Monument to Josep Sardà i Cailà. Sardà i Cailà, a lawyer and politician from Reus, dedicated a significant portion of his estate to the construction of this cemetery. The monument, created in the late 19th century in an eclectic style, has a stone base that resembles an altar (though it isn’t one), with a square foundation.

SEDÓ CHAPEL

This neoclassical-style chapel is notable for its white and black marble sarcophagi, adorned with floral motifs in iron and a figure of Our Lady of Sorrows. Most of the decoration is crafted in marble and iron, the work of Barcelona sculptor Eduard B. Alentorn, born in 1855. He was a disciple of the Vallmitjana brothers, Venanci and Agapit (creators of the Òdena-Yglesias Mausoleum), who introduced him to the artistic movement. In 1882, they entrusted him with sculpting the Venus for the Cascade Fountain in Barcelona’s Ciutadella Park.

MACIÀ VILA PANTHEON

This pantheon currently serves as the final resting place for those who have been honoured with the title of Illustrious Sons of the City of Reus. Notably, a plaque featuring the city’s coat of arms has been placed on one of its sides to commemorate this distinction.

Originally, it was constructed for the Vila family, specifically for Maria Barberà, the widow of the industrialist and banker Macià Vila. The pantheon was designed by the architect Leandro Albareda.
